Lego Rock Band

Lego Rock Band Review

We bought this for the kids this Christmas and it was an absolute hit with everyone! The following is a list of why I would HIGHLY recommend this product over all other Rock Band/Guitar Hero games (with the Beatles coming in a solid second place… my youngest sings “Yellow Submarine” more than any other song… better than Ringo… then again, who can’t):

1. The songs are family friendly
2. There are no half-naked women or demons performing on stage or in the background. I realize Guitar Hero is generally appealing to the peripubescent teen (successfully so), but as the father of 2 daughters, I’m not thrilled with every female character in Guitar Hero presented in such a trashy manner. The boys have a variety of characters to choose from, but if you’re a girl… you’re a trashy ho. Sorry… but that’s GH.
3. The story-line is very humorous. My wife and I have even loved playing just the two of us in the evening after the kids go to bed.
4. You can turn off the drum pedal!!!!! That has elevated the enjoyment of playing the drums for everyone.
5. Extra easy mode is perfect for the little ones.
6. Highly personalizable on many levels. This could really bog down the kids since there is SOOOO much you can individualize, but it adds another, almost SIMS, dimension to the game
6. Great way to get everyone involved playing a game

This is definitely a game everybody will enjoy since it has the classic LEGO humor. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. ROCK ON!

Gameplay
Action in LEGO Rock Band is nearly identical to the familiar flow of Rock Band gameplay, only with a LEGO twist. Your goal is to run through a succession rock tinged family friendly song tracks with your band, consisting in multiplayer modes of up to four avatars in LEGO form controlled with guitar, bass guitar, microphone and drum controllers. The game features compatibility with most existing Rock Band and Guitar Hero instrument controllers for the appropriate platform. One of the fun LEGO influences is in the tablature flowing across the screen that directs your play. This is in the form of LEGO blocks color coded for each controller. As players successfully complete songs and rock challenges, they can collect LEGO ’studs,’ with which they can customize their avatar and other in-game goodies in true LEGO Snap-On fashion. In addition, players can unlock additional content and collect amazing vehicles, which can transport their band from local gigs at rock clubs to epic stadium shows and even fantasy settings on Earth and beyond. The game contains a variety of play modes including Quickplay and Challenge, and will feature music both supplied on the game disc as well as downloadable content.

Rock Band 2 Standalone Drums

Rock Band 2 Standalone Drums Review

I’ve played Rock Band a lot with the old drums and twice now with the new ones. The second version fixed the two big problems present in the first drum set, but also created two new problems.br /br /Pros:br /1) They are no longer so loud!! I love it! You can pound away and still actually hear the drum beats on the TV without turning the volume up to eardrum-incinerating levels.br /2) The foot pedal is MUCH sturdier and, I’m sure, significantly less likely to break.br /3) I love the black color. They don’t stand out as sharply or look as ugly as the first ones did.br /br /Cons:br /1) They’re wireless. Sounds great, but seems to interfere with the wireless guitar. Either that or it’s a problem coming from my second negative point.br /2) Synchronization is a pain in the BUTT. The drumming on RB2 in general seems to be shoddier than on RB1, even using the first drum set. Having an HDTV or a Flat screen seems to be more problematic than an older-style “normal” tv. There’s something off about the drums in RB2. Even after trying to sync everything up you have to hit the notes a bit earlier than in RB1. Also, a lot of times my friends and I would be hitting the notes but they just wouldn’t register. I’m not sure if that’s a sync problem or a wireless interference issue.br /br /If only they could have kept the functionality of the first set while fixing the noise and pedal problem. Sadly, it seems like no peripheral unit for anything can ever be just right. I’d *almost* recommend that you just buy the first drum set with silencers. Especially since these ones are so expensive!!

Wii Rock Band Special Edition

Wii Rock Band Special Edition Review

Let me state something first.br /I’ve never played Guitar Hero…br /br /I’ve been told that GH is better (in some aspects) than ROCKBAND.br /br /In ROCKBAND, you are the band. Period. You’re not setting up play lists, you’re not deciding on pyros for the stage.br /br /You (and up to two friends) are playing guitar, singing or playing drums.br /br /From that aspect, ROCKBAND is a blast. You get a variety of songs, you can select how difficult they are and you just go.br /br /It’s a decent game with friends, and enjoyable as a solo as well.
