Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip Review

I’m going to go ahead and start this review off by saying something that you may not believe. Ubisoft…made a decent game for the Wii. Now, over the years, Ubisoft hasn’t been a bad company, but just look at their recent flail-fest `Just Dance’ and you have an idea of what the company has been up to lately, not to mention their `imagine’ series. Shaun White Snowboarding isn’t necessarily a `Hardcore’ snowboarding experience, but it has learned from efforts such as SSX Blur, the other successful snowboarding game on the Wii. br /br / The gameplay in Road Trip is pretty much meant for a pick up and play design, with some hidden depth for your more serious snowboarding gamer. There are two control schemes in this game, wiimote control and wimote plus wii balance board. Both of these control schemes work well, but for some of the game’s more serious challenges, you may want to step off the board and stick to the remote only. The remote is held like a TV controller, straight out ahead of you, and it is the most responsive I’ve seen in a while out of the wii’s racing experiences. Balance board control is done by standing like a snowboarder and tilting in the direction you want. Tricks are controlled by holding the buttons on the remote down by doing a required motion in order to pull it off in time to not crash into the unforgiving ground. With the balance board, it’s a matter of figuring out how to do the motions required. It will take a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, balance board control becomes much easier.br /br / Shaun White has two basic modes: Single player and multiplayer. Single player gives you a very light story, which there really isn’t any point going into further than: You’re following Shaun White around the world’s snowboarding locations. For every location, there are four levels, with two challenges within them, leading to 48 total challenges. After unlocking Shaun White you gain new challenges to complete. In multiplayer, you have a co-op mode in which you have basically the same experience as single player, except the story is ditched and characters are unlocked more easily. There is a head to head mode, in which you race or compete for tricks against whoever is playing with you. There is also a cup mode, which is like a snowboarding grand prix mode. The final mode is hot seat mode, which is a mode where you have to switch the people on the board to complete tracks, which is surprisingly fun. My only complaint here is that there isn’t any wifi connection play.br /br / Shaun White’s graphics are well polished and have a cartoony feel to them. This isn’t really a bad thing, as it fits the game very well, while making it a game that feels even more unique to the wii, rather than the PS360 version with motion controls attached to it and worse graphics. There are no frame rate problems, and the whole game moves very smoothly. The soundtrack sticks out from many other games because it has a licensed soundtrack, with enough variety that there’s something for everybody to enjoy in the soundtrack. It is also possible to switch songs in the middle of play by pressing the one button.br /br / Shaun White is a game that anybody can enjoy, and one that most people will enjoy. Even with the limited single player experience, Shaun White prevails in multiplayer, and has enough lasting appeal that it will not be forgotten for a while, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun multiplayer experience on the wii. br /

This works perfectly with Shaun White Snowboarding, as it can detect whether you are leaning forward, back, left, or right, and it reacts like a real snowboard would.ptable align=right width=250 cellpadding=15 cellspacing=15trtdimg src=”http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/wii-bb-sm.jpg” border=0 align=topbrbrspan class=”caption”The Wii Balance Board gives you an unprecedented, realistic experience. View larger. /span/td/tr/table To jump, you quickly shift your weight to the balls of your feet, and while in the air, you tap the A or B buttons and lean left and right to grab the board and spin, respectively. A multitude of tricks are available for you to learn, and chaining them together lets you amass more points. As you do tricks, a small little icon shows up on the screen to let you know what you did. For example, if you do a 720-degree turn called a “melon,” a little watermelon slice will show up on screen. p If you would rather forego the Balance Board, you can play with just the Wii Remote as well.pbBeautiful Graphics with Unique Camera System/bbr Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip features a unique camera system, where you can choose different cameramen and camerawomen to follow you around. Some are better for tricks and others for speed, so be sure to pick the right one, as they’ll give you abilities during your ride. p As the cameraperson follows you on your ride, you’ll notice different effects, such as image blurs around the edges of the screen to give a sense of speed. The camera will collect snow when you fall, and sometimes the camera will white out after completing a big jump, as the cameraperson has to follow you and do the same moves as well. This unique system adds another element of strategy and fun to the game.pbTour the World with Shaun White/bbr Road Trip begins with you as a newcomer to the snowboarding scene. Shaun White serves as your mentor, and together you travel the world, tackling mountains and making friends as you work your way up to becoming the world’s best snowboarder.p As you win competitions and meet new people, they’ll show you new tricks and special abilities that will help you against the competition. You’ll have to learn different snowboarding skills as you compete in races down a mountain, half-pipe events, slaloms, rail jams, and more. You can also take a breather and just free ride in the back country at your own pace. pbPlay With or Against Your Friends/bbr Road Trip doesn’t have online multiplayer options, but you can play both competitively and cooperatively with a friend on a split screen. In competitive mode, you and a friend can race to the bottom or try to out-trick each other for the highest score. In cooperative mode, both of you ride down the same slope, and the scores are added together. The entire game can be played cooperatively, so you and a friend can tour the world together and unlock new extras.pbr clear=”all”centerimg src=”http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B001B1W3KM-3-sm.jpg” border=0 align=topimg src=”http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B001B1W3KM-4-sm.jpg” border=0 align=topimg src=”http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B001B1W3KM-2-sm.jpg” border=0 align=top/centerbr clear=”all”
